DIY Tracksuit Costume on a Budget

You do not need to spend a lot to pull off a great tracksuit costume. With a few smart choices, you can build a convincing look using basics you may already own, plus one or two inexpensive add-ons.
Begin with any green zip-up track jacket and matching joggers. Thrift stores and the back of your closet are good places to look. The exact shade does not need to be perfect; a deep teal-green reads correctly from across the room. If your pieces are plain, white fabric tape or iron-on trim along the sleeves and legs adds the contrasting stripe.
Next comes the number. Iron-on numbered patches are cheap, quick, and look neat. If you prefer, cut numbers from white felt and attach them with fabric glue. Place one on the left chest of the jacket and a larger one on the back for the full effect. Keep a lint roller handy, as felt edges can shed.
Shoes matter more than people expect. Plain white slip-on canvas shoes complete the look and are useful long after Halloween. If you already own white sneakers, those work in a pinch.
To keep the budget in check, set a limit before you shop and focus on the pieces that are most visible: the jacket, the number, and the shoes. Everything else is optional. Add a simple name tag or a small shape-themed prop, and you are ready for any costume party without overspending.
